This outer garment, part of a kasane set along with its counterpart (item 1708b), reflects a tradition observed until the early 20th century, where wealthier Japanese families would commission such sets. Crafted from a very fine creped silk in a subdued black hue with a hint of bluish undertone, this piece features flowers created through embroidery, yuzen-painting, and brush painting techniques. It proudly displays five family crests (mon) and measures 49 inches (124 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end, standing at a height of 61 inches (155 cm).
