This stunning silk haori features both an unusual design and technique. I believe that this textile was created as follows: a long white silk bolt is initially patterned with complex meisen ikat parrot patterns. Following this, the parrot-design area are tied of while the rest of the textile is patterned with shibori tie-dye pine-tree motifs. The final step would have been the cutting and piecing together of the jacket. It is obvious that this was a very special garment created by a master of both meisen and shibori techniques. 49" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 37" height.
