This silk haori is a refined example of mid-century textile design, utilizing the lustrous properties of its base fabric to ground a disciplined, geometric composition. The garment is rendered on a deep cranberry-red rinzu (damask) ground, providing a rich architectural field for its high-contrast surface decoration.
The primary design features a series of shibori motifs scattered rhythmically across the body and sleeves. These motifs take the form of stylized, rectangular "Genji-mon" icons—symbols traditionally associated with chapters of the Tale of Genji—rendered in a crisp white resist-dye. The rinzu base adds significant visual depth; light interacting with the woven damask reveals a tonal field of horizontal "mist" or cloud patterns that "shimmer" beneath the bold geometric shibori.
It's in very good condition and measures 50 inches (127 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end, standing at 32 inches (81 cm) tall.
