This silk haori features a meticulous all-over shibori (tie-dye) technique. The garment is rendered on a deep plum-purple silk ground, which provides a rich architectural field for its complex, high-contrast surface decoration.
The composition is defined by a dense, rhythmic background of kanoko (fawn-spot) shibori, creating a textured, granular appearance across the entire textile. Superimposed on this field are large-scale, stylized motifs of traditional folding fans (sensu) and flowering plum blossoms, rendered in crisp white through the same shibori resist process. The fans are depicted with bold, geometric linework that cuts through the busy background, while the delicate blossoms add a softer, botanical counterpoint.
It measures 49 inches (124 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end and stands at 33 inches (84 cm) tall.
