This silk haori is a vibrant and graphically bold example of textile design, utilizing the labor-intensive shibori (tie-dye) technique to create a composition of high-contrast botanical forms. The garment is rendered on a saturated magenta-purple ground, providing a brilliant architectural field for its rhythmic surface decoration.
The primary design features several large, stylized camellias scattered across the body and sleeves. These blossoms are rendered in a striking teal-green with crisp white outlines, created through a precise resist-dyeing process that leaves a characteristic soft, variegated "halo" around the edges of the petals. The background is filled with a dense, all-over field of kanoko (fawn-spot) shibori, which adds a granular, tactile texture to the purple silk.
In excellent condition, it measures 49 inches (124 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end and stands at 38 inches (97 cm) tall.
