A chirimen (crepe) silk kimono featuring an abstract design of colored rectangles, some containing small damask designs, with the pink ones with embroidery highlights. Some gold metallic insert threads. A small stain on the front lapel, and one inconspicuous one on the back collar. 50" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 60" height. Kimonos of the late Taisho and early Showa period of the 1920's and 1930's saw some kimono designs that have no precedents in Japanese tradition. This example is one such instance of this: the artist was experimenting here, with interesting results.
