A textured chirimen (crepe) silk kimono featuring alternating red and blue undulating color bands on a black background. An area of moderate discoloration on the lower backside (see images). 49" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 58" height. Kimonos of the late Taisho and early Showa period of the 1920's and 1930's saw some kimono designs that have no precedents in Japanese tradition. This example is one such instance of this: the artist was experimenting here, with fulfilling results.
