An inner silk wedding furisode featuring a vermillion red rinzu base, patterned with shibori, metallic couching and silk plain embroidery imperial carts. Very good condition. 50" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 62" height. Such inner furisode are not normally as opulent as this example: most exhibit only a rinzu base, lacking the silk and ornate metallic couching on item 2785. The main motif on this furisode - the imperial cart - is auspicious. Prior to the existence of paved roads in Japan, only the Imperial Court was allowed to use wheeled transport. So this motif raises whatever it decorates to a higher level. In this case - a wedding - it signifies a regal ceremony.
