This silk haori is a striking example of Mid-Showa period textile design, utilizing bold geometric imagery to create a sense of balanced, architectural movement. The garment is rendered on a deep slate-blue ground, providing a saturated field for its high-contrast surface decoration.
The primary composition showcases rectangular faux-meisen patterns scattered across the body and sleeves. These large vignettes mimic the characteristic blurred, "shimmering" edges of authentic meisen ikat but are achieved through precise printing or dyeing. Within these rectangular frames, vibrant floral arrangements of red peonies and autumn maple leaves are depicted against a background of traditional carts and fences. Surrounding these main features is an all-over pattern of stylized, multi-colored clouds and small white plum blossoms, which add a sense of atmospheric depth to the graphic, modern layout.
It measures 49 inches (125 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end and stands at 35 inches (89 cm) in height.
