A boy's plain silk miyamairi kimono created for a ceremonial Shinto shrine blessing. The two motifs are waves and an intricately patterned lucky mallet. The waves and the mallet were created utilizing yuzen-dyeing (resist painting), with much metallic thread couching within the mallet motif. Very good condition, with minor imperfection on the outside, and lots of patina on the inner lining. 33" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 44" height. The mallet of luck is well known in Japan as the item that Daikoku, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, carries with him. Daikoku is the god of fortune and relationships. It is said that hitting the mallet of luck will cause any kind of wish to come true, and that Daikoku granted many wishes with it. It is also featured in many Japanese fairy tales.
